The term thoracic refers to the chest cavity, also known as the thoracic cavity. Thoracic diseases involve mediastinal and tumor-related conditions that develop within the central cavity. It is important for people to be aware of these conditions to reduce the risk of infection and related chronic issues.
Thoracic diseases can affect three areas namely, the airway, chest, and esophagus. Some common airway-related diseases include asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema. Pneumothorax, chest wall deformities and chest cancers fall under chest-related thoracic diseases while gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and achalasia are types of esophageal thoracic diseases.
