Issue 2 - MARCH 2022
World Hearing Day was observed this month. It is a reminder to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world.
Hearing loss is the most common sensory weakness, affecting up to 5% of the world’s population. According to the WHO, by 2050 almost 2.5 billion people will have some degree of hearing loss, of which 700 million will require rehabilitation.
The Hearing Loss and Rehabilitation Program at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi helps patients who are experiencing any degree of hearing loss.
Meet Dr Mark Bassim, one of the multidisciplinary team working within the Hearing Loss and Rehabilitation Program at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Dr. Mark Bassim, MD, FACS, is an Otologist and Neurotologist. He specializes in all diseases of the ear and lateral skull base, and treats patients with hearing loss, dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, and skull base tumors.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer among women in the UAE, but this figure could be reduced as the disease is preventable and treatable if caught early. Often, women are reluctant to come forward for screening, due to fear or embarrassment.
At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, we offer an Endoscopy Team ‘For Women, By Women’. Led by our female gastroenterologist, Dr. Pascale Anglade, supported by a team of nurses, physicians, and admin staff who are all women, we provide compassionate care in a culturally sensitive environment.
This month we observed World Obesity Day, a chance for us all to reflect on our diet and lifestyle choices. Obesity has negative consequences on a variety of aspects of our health including blood pressure, heart health, lung health, and more.
Let's work together to shed light on this dangerous condition and offer support for those affected.
