World Psoriasis Day

October 29th marked World Psoriasis Day. An important occasion to help raise awareness of a skin condition that affects many people. Psoriasis is a chronic condition, meaning it doesn’t go away, so it is very important to know what to look for and understand how symptoms can be managed.

There are several types of treatment available which can relieve psoriasis. These range from creams and ointments which can help if only small areas are affected, through to light therapy and biologic drugs.

Keeping skin hydrated from the inside and outside is key for any dry skin condition. Drink plenty of water and keep your skin hydrated by applying unperfumed moisturizer regularly. Taking plenty of exercise and eating a healthy, balanced diet will also have an impact on the health of your skin. Certain diets are associated with a reduction in inflammation, our doctors can help guide you on what should be eating to reduce the risk of a psoriasis or eczema flare-up.

Our clinic’s expert physicians offer comprehensive care to manage psoriasis using state-of-the-art therapies. Like many conditions affecting the skin, psoriasis can cause patients to feel insecure or self-conscious about their appearance. The Psoriasis Clinic team provides comprehensive and thorough care, which is compassionate and thoughtful, always putting Patients First.

Cancer Patient’s Holistic Treatment Approach Helps Her Beat the Disease

Rana was diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram, and immediately embarked on a year-long journey to fight the disease.

The word ‘cancer’ came as a shock for the family and was initially difficult to accept. Her thoughts immediately turned to her daughters and whether she would see them graduate. The diagnosis hit her family hard.

Rana began an intense treatment program at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, with her family by her side. Inevitably, the chemotherapy and hormone treatments took their toll on Rana physically. But the psychological impact was also significant.

She says “The entire team at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi were an enormous support. They offered me comfort and power. Together, we took it step by step and we fought it. And I will continue to fight with all the power I have.”
